Volvo Recalls Trucks for Loose Lug Nuts
Volvo Trucks North America is recalling some 2025 model year trucks due to an issue with the wheel lug nuts. The recall affects approximately 156 Volvo VN and VHD models. The issue was found in trucks built between August 19 and August 26, where the left-side lug nuts were not properly tightened. This problem was identified by Volvo’s assembly operations.
Improperly tightened lug nuts can cause the wheel to detach while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Volvo will fix the issue by tightening the left-side lug nuts at no cost to the truck owners. Affected owners will receive notification letters starting on November 11. For more information, owners can contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX2407. The NHTSA recall number is 24V-665.
Trailer Recalls: Great Dane and Trail King
Great Dane is recalling around 10 2025 Champion dry van trailers due to improperly welded rear impact guards. These trailers, made in their Brazil, Indiana, and Kewanee, Illinois plants, may have missing welds on the rear impact guard. Great Dane has already inspected and corrected remaining trailers. Dealers will inspect and repair the affected trailers at no cost. Owners will be notified by November 12. For assistance, call Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493. The NHTSA recall number is 24V-689.
Trail King is recalling 39 model year 2019-2020 TKHDG Paver Special lowboy trailers because the gooseneck lift lower cylinder mount may crack, posing a risk of sudden trailer drops during loading or unloading. Dealers will install reinforcements to the cylinder mounts, free of charge. Owners will be notified by September 27. For more information, contact Trail King customer service at 1-800-843-3324. The NHTSA recall number is 24V-670.
IRS Increases Truckers’ Per Diem Rates
The IRS has announced an increase in per diem rates for truckers for fiscal year 2025. The per diem rate for travel within the U.S. will rise from $69 to $80 per day, while the rate for international travel increases to $86 per day. The new rates, which take effect on October 1, will help offset the costs of meals and lodging when drivers are away from home. The IRS allows drivers to deduct 80% of the per diem rate, which amounts to $64 for U.S. travel and $68.80 for international travel.
